The RV Book Launch: Machu Picchu, the Amazon, and the Salad - Rick Incorvia

A brutally honest, darkly funny travel-survival memoir about a man in his late sixties who agrees to hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu with his wife, expecting challenge, beauty, and adventure — only to discover that the most dangerous part of the trip was not the mountain, the jungle, or the cliffs.

This is not just a story about surviving the Inca Trail.
It is about aging honestly, being unprepared despite training, confusing determination with delusion, and the humbleness of depending on the kindness of strangers for survival.
The RV Book Reviews

A hilarious reminder that adventure isn't always what the brochure promises.
I absolutely loved this book! Rick has a witty, sharp, sarcastic, and wonderfully self-deprecating sense of humor that shines through almost every sentence. His punchlines are perfectly timed, and I found myself laughing out loud more than once.
What amazed me was how vividly he describes every detail of his adventure. You would think he had a notebook in his hand the entire time, even during those moments when simply staying alive seemed to require all his attention!
I really enjoyed Incorvia’s writing style. Short sentences. Repetition. More repetition. All used brilliantly to emphasize a point or deliver another hilarious observation. I felt as though I was right there with him, experiencing every exhausting step.
And let's not forget his adventures in the Amazon rainforest! Almost as challenging as the Inca Trail itself, and certainly just as entertaining. Rick manages to turn even the most uncomfortable situations into comedy gold.
Perhaps this book clicked with me because, being only a few years younger than Rick, I know how easy it is to fall in love with the idea of an adventure. Kayaking, long bicycle rides, hiking... They all look so peaceful and poetic in pictures. Until you're actually doing them!
Rick's observation about Machu Picchu looking wonderfully serene in brochures, while getting there involves four days of suffering, really hit home. Funny enough, just the day before reading his book, I was planning a trip to China and questioning whether to include some high-altitude destinations. Something told me I might be signing up for more than I could handle. After reading Rick's experience, decision made!
And just when you think the adventure is over, Rick still has a surprise waiting for you. No spoilers!
I finished this book in just a few hours. I couldn't put it down. In fact, I have a sneaking suspicion that Rick deliberately planned this entire ordeal just to have enough outrageous material for a hilarious bestseller!
Brutally honest, wonderfully entertaining, and surprisingly relatable. What a ride, Rick! Thanks for taking me along without making me climb a single mountain!

As one of nine children growing up in the 70’s, Rick Incorvia was surrounded by a cast of characters where controlled chaos was the status quo. He felt that if he didn’t create his own identity, he would get lost in the crowd. Admittedly, he was a bit of a troublemaker and sometimes liked being lost in the crowd, or at least unaccounted for. If he wasn’t scheming a plot to prank a sibling, he was imagining himself as 007 or an Ocean’s Eleven participant. His brothers and sisters say his favorite line is …”just imagine.”
Rick is a born storyteller. Book number five, The Traveler’s Best Seller, reflects his boundless creativity as he introduces historical characters in real-life situations. He takes you on exciting adventures in dreamlike fantasies with intoxicating detail. Rick’s ability to “keep it real” and yet take readers to the edge, has thrilled his cult following.
